Jonathan Doyle
clarinet
Austin reedman Jonathan Doyle finds
inspiration in the musical legacy of
Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins,
Edmond Hall and Sidney Bechet.
Jon was born and raised in the
Chicago-land area. Following a love
of jazz, he briefly enrolled in the
DePaul University School of Music,
where he became interested in the
history of jazz and all of its
offshoots. Jonathan left school for
a two-year stint traveling with The
Mighty Blue Kings, a jump blues and
R&B band. He continued playing
early blues and jazz styles for
another five years with The Four
Charms while also taking part in
Chicago’s emerging creative music
scene.
Jon’s love of acoustic and “American
roots” musical styles led to a move
to Austin, Texas in 2003. He
currently free-lances around
Austin’s vibrant live music scene,
mostly playing traditional jazz and
western swing. He performs regularly
with the Jazz Pharaohs, White Ghost
Shivers, Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz
Babies, Giant Three, and Warren Hood
& the Hoodlums. He also appears
occasionally with The Jim Cullum
Band at The Landing in San Antonio
as well as Texas music legends
Asleep at the Wheel and Willie
Nelson.
