About the Riverwalk Jazz Collection

The Jim Cullum Riverwalk Jazz Collection is an incomparable archive of the Riverwalk Jazz radio program and website covering its entire history since 1989. The core of the collection is the nearly 400 radio program recordings broadcast on public radio featuring the Jim Cullum Jazz Band. The recordings are enriched by the accompanying website containing illustrated essays for nearly every program, information on all of the guest artists and members of the band for the duration of the program, a complete listing of all of the programs and the songs played on the programs, supplementary recordings, and stories written by Jim Cullum.

In addition to the recordings and website materials available online, the historical records and documents of the Riverwalk Jazz program are preserved and accessible on campus at the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound, where researchers, musicians and the general public may come to learn about the radio show and its music. This archive contains all of the artistic and business records for the program including production and publicity files, correspondence with musicians, photographs, research materials used to produce the programs, published recordings of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, and similar primary research materials and documents. The Riverwalk Jazz collection is described in a detailed finding aid.

It directly complements the Jim Cullum Collection also at Stanford, which contains over 1000 tape recordings of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band dating from 1948 through 2007.
